In the classroom, there are different types of students with
diverse learning needs. Specifically, English language learners have unique
needs that teachers must cater to. The advancements in technology has led to
more resources to improve Ell’s learning experience. In the article I researched,
the author discusses the benefits computer-education has for Language Learners.
To begin with, using computer tech makes learning more exciting
and suits all, since multimedia involves uses both auditory and visual senses. In
general, it is definitely more engaging to learn with various software programs
than to watch a teacher teach via the chalkboard. Furthermore, using multimedia texts aids in
language learning since it familiarizes students to the language structure. In addition,
using the internet motivates students to learn and access more materials. Through
using computer technology, students have so much information at their
fingertips. The internet can supply them with much more information than the teacher
can provide. In this way, students can control their own learning process, as
they choose which materials they prefer to learn with. This motivates them to succeed
and teaches them responsibility.
These are some of the benefits technology has to offer for
Language Learners. However, the author stresses that teachers must familiarize
themselves with the technology programs in order to use it in the classroom.
Since computer technology has so much to offer, I feel that is of upmost importance
for schools to provide training for teachers to learn how to use it. In this
way, they will be equipped to provide ELL’s with the education they deserve.
I enjoyed reading your reflection! I definitely agree with your statement, teachers need to be given proper training on specific technology tools that will be most effective in their classrooms!
